BJP on Saturday accused the Congress government in Assam of adopting a "callous" approach towards terror and questioned Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for "ignoring" intelligence inputs to prevent violence that has left 75 persons dead. The party also asked Gogoi how an "ISI agent" Riajul Islam Chaudhary was allowed to roam around freely and live in a madarsa after jumping bail in the last seven years following his arrest in 2007.

"Assam government's approach towards terror is callous. Two recent incidents brings the truth out that the Congress government in Assam has not done enough in the fight against terror. Tarun Gogoi and his government stand politically guilty of dereliction of their duty," BJP national Secretary Siddharth Nath Singh said..

He said the massacre in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur on December 23 that led to 75 deaths in Assam could have been avoided had the State government acted on intelligence reports by the IB in Guwahati and the Special Branch of Assam Police that there was credible information on the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) plans to carry out brutal attack on adivashis in these two districts.

The intelligence information was not post-facto but was given in the first week of December and subsequently on December 22 and then on the morning of december 23, he said.

Singh said the credibility of information can be judged that it mentioned one Bhedi, a commander of NDFB(S) will carry out the massacre. The defence of the State Government that they could not act in time because the specific intelligence came on 23rd morning is "misleading", he said.
