With an aim to encourage bikers to undertake adventurous trips with a twist, Anil Nair, resident of Powai came up with an initiative 'Goodwind Riding' three months ago. The platform encourages passionate bikers to undertake a trip while raising funds and awareness about a social cause. Bikers associated with the initiative raise funds for a specific cause they support every time they ride. The riders are encouraged to use their social media account to generate awareness about the charity project and raise funds.

45-year-old Nair, founder of Goodwind Riding said, "These rides are to raise funds for underprivileged children who are suffering from illnesses or diseases and who need a huge amount of money for their treatment. The contributions goes directly to the child's parent's account or to the NGO which they belong to rather than Goodwind Riding. The main aim is to motivate riders to undertake the ride in order to make a positive difference and convert it into a force for good."

Before its launch in September 2016, the initiative was in the pipeline for over a period of six months. In the first ride held in September, Nair travelled alone to Spiti Valley and raised funds to support children suffering from cancer.

Speaking about the first ride for the project, Nair, who works in an advertising agency, said, "The first ride I wanted to travel alone and see how the initiative would turn out. I posted about it on social media and raised funds with the help of my relatives and friends. In the second ride, by a bike enthusiast from Pune, we raised 30 per cent of funds from people we had never even met before. The initiative is generating a positive response on social media and from the biker's community who are voluntarily ready to make a difference."

In a month, two to three rides are organised. NGOs like Children Cancer Care and Bal Asha Trust are receiving funds for the underprivileged children through these bike rides. "During the third ride, we managed to collect funds for the children of Bal Asha Trust. The money will help the NGO to stock up on their yearly food supply," said Nair. The initiative is active in Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Goa so far. The funds raised aim to focus on child care projects related to education, health, wellbeing to name a few.

"When people pay for charity they need assurance that the money will be used in the right direction and for a moral purpose. We provide bank details of the person or the organisation who needs these funds. We request the bikers to spread awareness through a creative post on social media, sharing their travel pictures and doing a countdown to the trip. This helps to get response on social media as well as start a discussion. We have received response from eastern and southern parts of the country to begin the initiative in those regions too."
