He’s down to his underpants, quite literally, in his quest for a road in his area. Taking the Gandhigiri route, à la Bollywood’s Munnabhai, Bihar legislator and Bhojpuri star Vinay Bihari has despatched his kurta to Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and his pyjamas to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and is roaming around in his vest and shorts.

Hoping to catch the central and the state governments attention with his unique protest, the former minister and BJP legislator from Lauriya in West Champaran district, is demanding the construction of a 44 km stretch of road in his constituency.

On Friday, Bihari was seen at a BJP workers’ training camp in Lauriya in floppy half-pants, a vest and a folded shawl over his left shoulder.

Known to be one of Bihar’s best-dressed legislators by virtue of belonging to the entertainment industry, the filmmaker-singer-actor has shared his ‘dressed down’ photographs on his Facebook page and expressed sadness over the slow pace of movement of files for the construction of a state highway between Manua Pul and Ratwal Pul in West Champaran.

“CM Nitish Kumar had promised a state highway before thousands of locals. I have ensured that all paperwork is complete and yet no tender has been floated. It is absolute injustice with the people,” Bihari said.

The MLA had written to both Gadkari and Nitish Kumar many times for construction of the state highway but to no avail, said a source close to Bihari. “This time, along with a letter, he has parcelled his kurta to the union minister and said that it is not a BJP MLA’s kurta but is symbolic of BJP’s pride and honour. He will take it back with due respect when the road construction work begins,” the source said.

In a letter sent along with the pyjama to the chief minister, Bihari has echoed the sentiment and said it is not a Bihar MLA’s pyjama but represents the development and good governance promised by the Nitish government and will keep reminding him of his promise to the people of Lauriya.
