Taking a cue from the Opposition parties at national level, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the single largest party in Bihar that sits in the Opposition, said it will bring a no confidence motion against chief minister Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in the House, which commenced its Monsoon Session on Friday.

RJD MLA and Leader of the Opposition in Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, said, his party will bring a no-confidence motion in the next session, if not in this one. “We might bring it in sometime. A trust motion is not always to take down the government. Sometimes it is also for making the government provide answers to the public. If not in this session, we will try to bring it in the next session,” he said.

Tejashwi was speaking to media persons following the adjournment of the Assembly after tabling of supplementary budget (2018-19) and obituary references on Friday.

The RJD, with its 81 MLAs, is the largest party in Bihar while ally Congress has 27 MLAs in the 243-member House. Even with the support of three MLAs of CPI (ML-L) and one of HAM-S, it will fall 10 short of the magic figure in the Assembly in case of a trust vote.

Yadav said the trust motion will also highlight the failures of the government as well as display the unity among the Opposition parties.

“The NDA government is anti-poor and anti-Constitution. Bihar is facing a drought like situation, yet the government has no plans to tackle it,” Tejashwi said. The RJD will raise issues of public concern, including law and order, safety and security of women and bootlegging since the enforcement of total alcohol prohibition in the state, during the monsoon session, which concludes on July 26.
