Over 80 per cent students aced the Bihar School Examination Board's (BSEB) Class X exams, results of which were declared on Saturday.

The pass percentage is up by around 11.8 per cent from last year, when over 68 per cent students cleared their exams.

Just like the BSEB's Intermediate exam results declared a week ago, the Matriculation exam results have been declared within a record time of 29 days. "The papers were held from February 21 to 28 and the evaluation was started from March 8. Almost 98 lakh answer-books and OMR sheets each had to be evaluated," said BSEB chairman Anand Kishor, while releasing the results at the Board's office.

According to the figures provided by the BSEB, over 16.35 lakh examinees appeared for the exams this year, of which over 13.20 lakh were able to pass the exams. The number of boys who passed the exam was 6.83 lakh while 6.36 lakh girls passed.

Kishor said the BSEB had taken a number of measures to ensure that fair and cheating-free exams are conducted by the board and the evaluation process was expedited. "The board extensively used technology to ensure both.

The whole process was monitored by a 24x7 control room as well as WhatsApp groups related to the nodal exam officers in the districts," he said.

In previous years, the Class X results were usually declared by the BSEB in June, causing inconvenience to students seeking Class XI admissions in private schools, which wrap up the process by that time.

Of the 18 students who figured in the Top 10 list of the Board, 16 were from Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya in Jamui, a model school run by the state government. Sawan Raj Bharti of the school topped in state with 97.2 per cent marks, while his school-mates Rounit Raj and Priyanshu Raj scored 96.6 per cent and 96.2 per cent marks to secure second and third position respectively.

Speaking to media persons, Bharti said he put in 15 hours of study everyday and his goal was to become the Bihar topper. "Whenever I felt tired of studies, the title of Bihar topper flashed in my mind. My hard work has paid off," said Bharti, adding that he took no private tuition and stayed away from social media while preparing for his exams. The son of a small-scale farmer, Bharti wants to crack the UPSC exam and become a "good IAS officer."
