Bengaluru: Canara Bank manager commits suicide due to alleged harassment by seniors

The note he left behind states that he committed suicide because of harassment by senior officials.

A 57-year-old bank manager committed suicide in Bengaluru allegedly due to harassment by senior officials in Canara Bank, The New Indian Express reported. Murthy was found hanging from the ceiling at his home, on Wednesday morning.

Police officials have told the daily that Murthy was sitting in the pooja room for a long time on Tuesday night. He told his wife that he couldn't sleep and would stay up for a while in the night. At 5:30 am he was found hanging from the ceiling. According to his suicide note, he committed suicide because of harassment by senior bank officials. 

The police told the daily that Murthy had been overlooked for promotions despite good performance. They also said that loans given out by Murthy during his time at the bank were not recovered. While there were also allegations against Murthy regarding financial irregularities, bank officials have dismissed both these reports. They called Murthy a sincere employee.

The daily has quoted a senior Canara Bank official as stating that there was no personal issue or problems at work like harassment. 

Murthy's elder daughter is married while his younger daughter is pursuing her post-graduate degree. Tilak Nagar police have registered the case and are investigating it.
