Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Saturday paid rich tribute to Tulsi Govinda Baruah, the chairman of the Assam Tribune Group who died in Guwahati, saying he "heralded a new chaper" in journalism.

"Baruah will always be remembered for heralding a new chapter in journalism, bringing to the fore issues faced by common people of Assam," Tewari said in a condolence message.

"His leadership of Assam Tribune played a pioneering role in voicing the concerns of the people of north eastern India. His true adherence to journalistic values created a tradition for the profession," he added.

"I pray to God that the family gathers the strength to overcome this untimely crisis," Tewari further said.
