Police today detained for questioning two employees of a backwater island resort at nearby Pozhiyur in connection with rape of a 40-year-old Bangalore-based IT professional there last month.

According to police sources, both of them were migrant workers from a north eastern state and they were being questioned. Their antecedents were also being verified, the sources said.

The woman, a professional working with an IT company, was allegedly raped by two persons in the star-category resort in the wee hours on November 28.

She had come to the resort, located about 30 km from here, with a group of colleagues as part of an official trip.

According to her complaint, two unidentified persons entered her room at around 2.30 AM. While one of them restrained her, the other man raped her.

The woman suffered injuries and was in a traumatised state after the incident, about which she made a compalint to the police the next evening.

The police registered a case of rape on the basis of the victim's statement. She has left for Bangalore.

Since then the resort had been under surveillance and investigation was mostly centred around its employees. PTI NM RC SC 12031539 NNNN
