"Aai maala maaru nako...mala tujha sobat rahaycha aahe" (Mom, please don't kill me...I want to live with you). These were the last words of a nine-year-old, Amey Chougule, when the very woman, who gave him birth and nursed him, tried to eliminate him.

Neha Chougule, 35, on Thursday, confessed to Kherwadi police that she alone killed Amey at their residence at government colony in Bandra (E) in 2013. She claimed that she was fed up with his mischievous behaviour and lost cool because of the complaints she received from society members and his school.

Chougule recalled that she had served Amey food laced with poison before strangulating him. Her husband Gajanan, 39, and daughter Aishwarya was not at home when the incident happened two years back. A murder case was registered only on Thursday after the police received a detailed forensic report.

According to the police, Chougule had earlier told the police that on March 30, 2013 after serving food to Amey, the boy started throwing up and later started spitting blood and became unconscious. Chougule and her brother-in-law Vijay then rushed Amey to three hospitals in Bandra and in all three, doctors declared him brought dead.

A case of accidental death was then registered at Kherwadi police station and post-mortem of the body was conducted at Sion Hospital.

Recently the police received the post-mortem report and viscera report which stated "shock due to throttling, associated with orgaophoshophorous chlorpyrefos (pyrene) poisoning (unnatural).

Following the report, the police grilled Chougule on several occasions and finally she broke down on Thursday.

Narrating the incident, senior police inspector Sujata Patil said, "Chougule said she had been receiving several complaints against Amey. She claimed that though she tried to counsel Amey, she saw no impact of her words on him and finally decided to take the extreme step."

On the fateful day, her husband and daughter were away when Amey came home from tuition. Chougule, who had already made up her mind, served a hungry Amey food laced with poison. When she realised that the poison was not showing much effect on Amey, she resorted to strangulating him repeatedly."

Shockingly, Chougule recalled that Amey had sought her pardon while being strangulated. He kept saying "Aai maala nako maar...mala tujha sobat rahaycha aahe" (Mom please don't kill me...i want to live with you). "However, this did not melt Chougule and she went on to murder him. Chougule then threw the poison bottle from the window and tried to destroy evidences. Chougule was arrested on Thursday night and remanded in police custody on Friday," Patil said.

As per Patil, Gajanan was in a state of shock when he learnt about his wife's involvement in Amey's murder. "Gajanan loved his son a lot and is inconsolable after knowing about his wife's role in the crime," Patil said.

Chougule has been booked under sections 302 (murder), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc. with intent to commit an offence) and 201 (destruction of evidences) of the Indian Penal Code.
