Taking serious note of non-appearance of five Babri accused, the CBI Special Court (Ayodhya Prakaran) on Thursday directed  all the six accused to appear before the designated  court “without any excuse”  on May 30 for framing of criminal conspiracy charges under section 120-B of the IPC.

The CBI Special Judge S.K. Yadav showed his displeasure over appearance of only one accused - Shiv Sena leader Satish Pradhan – before the court while Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Dr Ram Vilas Vedanti, Champat Rai Bansal, Baikunth Lal Sharma and Mahant Dharam Das Maharaj were conspicuous by their absence.  The court had fixed Thursday for framing of charges against them.

Despite the court’s direction in its May 24 order for their appearance on Thursday, only Shiv Sena leader Satish Pradhan appeared before the designated court. Taking strong note of absence of five accused, the Special CBI judge S.K. Yadav directed all the accused to appear before the court “without any excuse” on May 30.

In its order on May 24, the CBI Court had also fixed Friday (May 26) as the date for framing charges against Advani, Dr Joshi, Uma Bharati, Vinay Katiyar, Sadhvi Ritambhara and Vishnu Hari Dalmia. The CBI judge had directed their counsels and the investigating agency to ensure presence of the accused in the court.

Framing of charges against Advani, Dr Joshi, Uma Bharati, Katiyar, Sadhvi Ritambhara and Dalmia will take place on Friday as already ordered by the CBI Special Court in its May 24 order. Counsels of these senior leaders have, however, moved an application seeking exemption from their personal appearance. The application will come up for hearing on Friday.

A senior officer in VIP Security told DNA that they have not received any communication either from the Centre or the state government about visit of Advani and other VIPs in Lucknow on Friday.

This means that framing of charges may not take place against Advani and others like it had happened on Thursday against Mahanat Nritya Gopal Das and five others. The Special CBI Court may give them another chance and direct all the accused to appear on May 30 along with Mahant Nritya Gopal Das and others.
