The injured have been admitted to hospital

At least 17 people were killed and 15 others were injured when a private bus overturned after hitting the divider near Kiratpur village in Mainpuri district on Wednesday morning.
The Mainpuri District Magistrate Pradeep Kumar said that the private bus was coming from Jaipur in Rajasthan. Most of the victims belonged to Kannauj, Farrukhabad and Kanpur, he added.
High speed was stated to be the cause of the death. Injured passengers claimed that the driver lost control over the bus near Kiratpur village in Mainpuri and it hit the road driver. About 90 passengers were travelling in the ill-fated bus and many of them were sitting on the roof.
About half a dozen seriously injured passengers were shifted to Saifai Hospital and remaining are being treated at the Mainpuri districts hospital. The driver of the bus also sustained serious injuries.
Efforts are on to identify the dead and injured.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth has condoled the incident and has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of those died and Rs 50,000 to the injured. He has also directed the CMO to provide free medical care to those injured.
