A 101-foot bamboo idol of Goddess Durga is all set to hit the Guinness Book of Records of the world's tallest bamboo sculpture in Guwahati.

Art Director Nuruddin Ahmed and his team comprised of 40 artisans are making the Idol for Guwahati's Bishnpur Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee.

Nuruddin and his team had started the work on the tallest bamboo creation on 1st August. Earlier the bamboo structure was proposed to be of 110-feet tall, but unfortunately on 17th August the whole structure collapsed due to heavy storms in the region.

Deep Ahmed, the coordinator of the projects told NDTV,"It was a challenge to complete the project in just six days. People encouraged us to start afresh and we have already managed to finish almost 70 per cent of the structure."

The four-day Durga Puja celebrations commence on 27th of September. "The specialty about this idol is that the whole structure is made of bamboo. Not a single thing is made of any metal or plastic," he added.

National award-winner Art Director Nuruddin Ahmed has been designing Durga Idols since 1975. He has designed the most talked about sets in the city.

He secretly desires to rede-sign the city’s landscape, his home for almost over three decades. Ahmed has also won many accolades for his contribution to the field of stagecraft.

Ahmed, being a Muslim is often questioned on his creations for Hindu festivals. He says, "An artist has no religion and his only religion and duty is to serve humanity."
