An Army soldier was injured in the Pakistani firing along the Line of Control (LoC), and a CRPF jawan succumbed to injuries he suffered in a terror attack, even as the security forces killed a top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in a brief encounter in south Kashmir on Wednesday.

Havaldar Narendra Singh had sustained bullet injuries in enemy firing when he was deployed at a forward post in the Rampur Sector on August 7. He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital where he succumbed on Wednesday.

Hailing from Haripur village in Dehradun, Havaldar Narendra Singh, 43, is survived by wife Asha Devi and two young daughters.

"The mortal remains of the martyr were flown to his native village in Dehradun where he would be laid to rest with full military honours," said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, Defence spokesman at Srinagar.

A CRPF head constable who had sustained grievous wounds in the grenade attack at Bhatpora village Magam in central Kashmir's Budgam district on August 14 also succumbed to his wounds in the hospital. Hailing from Nowgam Shahabad, head Constable Riyaz Ahmad Rather succumbed to his wounds at 4 am on Wednesday.
