Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the border security with military chiefs on Tuesday, another Indian soldier was martyred in Naushera on the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu division.

With this the number of Indian soldiers killed in Pakistani firing and shelling on LoC and International Border (IB) since the September 29 surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) has touched 11. Around 12 civilians also succumbed to Pakistan shelling during this period.

The unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan army in Naushera sector started in the morning when they used 82 mm mortars and automatics to target Indian positions. Defence spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta in Jammu said heavy damage has been caused to Pakistan army posts. Pak army is using long range weapons including 82 mm mortars, with a range of 4.5 kms, and 120 mm mortars, which have a range of 7 kms, to target deep into the civilian areas along the LoC.

Figures reveal Pakistan has carried out more than 105 ceasefire violations with Indian troops foiling 61 Pakistan-abetted infiltration bids. They also confirm 405 incidents of cross-border firing along the Indo-Pak border in J&K in 2015, killing 16 civilians. Of this 253 incidents of cross-border firing have taken place along the IB and 152 along the LoC.
