Hours after Pakistani Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called up his Indian counterpart, alert troops forced a group of Pakistan-backed to take a hasty retreat after they tried to sneak-in from two sectors of the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir.

“Two infiltration attempts foiled in last 18 hours. Alert troops pushed back intruders in Gulmarg and Nowgam sectors after heavy exchange of fire”, tweeted Northern Command of the Indian army.

The first infiltration bid was foiled in Gulmarg sector on Wednesday when alert troops deployed on the LoC noticed suspicious movement.

Troops challenged the intruders, who opened heavy volume of fire. Indian army retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for few hours before the terrorists took a retreat back to Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

Hours later in the morning, Indian troops noticed the suspicious movement in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district. “There was an attempted infiltration. This was intercepted. It was fired upon. Exchange of fire took place at both the places and they were forced to flee back”, said an army spokesman.  The infiltration bids were foiled a day after Indian army launched a punitive fire assault on Pakistani posts in different sectors of Line of Control in a bid to avenge the killing of three soldiers in the Machhal sector on Tuesday.
