The Defence Ministry has launched a campaign to spread awareness about the valour of armed forces. The objective is to encourage citizens to make financial contributions to the families of war heroes and promote welfare activities. While there will be a big push on social media, events in schools and colleges are also planned starting December 1 and ending on December 7, which also happens to be Armed Forces Flag Day.
A sticker of the armed forces flag will be distributed at various public places including educational institutes.
“The main objective of the campaign is to get people to make financial contributions to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund (AFFD) which is used for the welfare of disabled ex-servicemen, war widows, and children of martyrs,” officials said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is his last ‘Mann ki Baat’ addressing the nation on the eve of Mumbai 26/11 attacks anniversary welcomed the idea to instil respect for armed forces as part of a campaign. “I am happy that the Ministry of Defence has decided to run a campaign from December 1 to December 7 during which they will reach out to the people of the country to disseminate information about our armed forces and to make them aware,” he said.
