Arani Lok Sabha Election Results 2019: Election in Arani constituency was held on April 18 in the second phase of Lok Sabha election 2019. Polling in all 38 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu took place in the second phase of general elections.

The key contest in Arani was held among AIADMK’s V Elumalai and Congress’ Dr MK Vishnu Prasad. Congress contested election in Tamil Nadu in alliance with the DMK, therefore, the latter did not field its candidate in Arani constituency.

Arani Lok Sabha Constituency profile

AIADMK's V Elumala is the sitting MP in Arani who defeated R Sivanandam of the DMK with a margin of close to 2.5 lakh votes.

According to the 2011 census data, Arani houses a total of 3,725,000. The district has an average literacy rate of 83%.

Tamil Nadu has a total of 39 parliamentary constituencies where 7 of them including Sriperumbudur, Chidambaram, Rasipuram, Pollachi, Perambalur, Tenkasi, and Nagapattinam have been reserved for candidates representing scheduled caste community. However, no seat here has been reserved for Scheduled Tribes.

Arani Lok Sabha results in 2014, 2009 and 2004 

2014: V Elumala of the AIADMK received 502721 votes and he defeated R Sivanandam of the DMK who only got 258877 votes. 

2009: M Krishnaswamy of the of Congress received 396728 votes. He defeated N Subramaniyan of the ADMK who only got 289898 votes.

The state of Tamil Nadu has 39 parliamentary constituencies out of which seven are reserved for SCs (Sriperumbudur, Chidambaram, Rasipuram, Pollachi, Perambalur, Tenkasi, and Nagapattinam). However, no seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes in the state.

In 2019, EC had cancelled the election in Vellore constituency after a large sum of cash was allegedly seized from a DMK candidate's office in Vellore, therefore, out of 39, polling took place in 38 Lok Sabha constituencies only.
