The Congress Saturday demanded that the ruling BJP should stop its plans of allowing dance bars in Goa, adding that the ruling party should also apologise to the public for making such a comment.

Speaking to reporters at the Congress party's state headquarters here, spokesperson Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said: "Has the BJP lost it totally? How dare they take the Goan people for granted by saying that they do not have a problem with dance bars starting in Goa?"

"The Congress demands that the 'dance bar' plans of the state government be stopped immediately," Lourenco said.

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should apologise to Goans for even considering the possibility of starting dance bars in the state.

"The BJP has to tender a public apology to Goans. It's a matter of shame that a ruling party wants to start dance bars here," Lourenco said.

Lourenco was reacting to a statement made Friday by BJP vice president Wilfred Misquita, when the latter endorsed the idea of dance bars in Goa.

"If alcohol...is allowed to flow in the gutters of Goa, I can't see why you have a problem against it (dance bars)," Misquita had said during a press conference here.
