Senior IAS officer Anshu Prakash was appointed the chief secretary of the Delhi government on Thursday. The 1986-batch IAS officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre will take over the position on Monday.

Prakash has been "prematurely repatriated" to his parent cadre from the Union Rural Development Ministry.

"The competent authority in the MHA has approved the appointment of Anshu Prakash as Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi," stated the order signed by TVSN Prasad, additional secretary in MHA.

Prakash was working as additional secretary, Rural Development. He has served in various capacities, such as the transport secretary as well as joint secretary in the Health and Family Welfare department of Delhi government.

According to sources, three senior AGMUT-cadre IAS officers were in the race for the coveted post.

Meanwhile, Prakash's predecessor M M Kutty has been sent to the Union Finance Ministry as an additional secretary last month. Kutty, a 1985-batch IAS officer, was made Delhi's chief secretary in November last year. He shared a fairly acrimonious relationship with chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
