Another soldier killed on LoC, toll rises to three in two days

For the second time in the last two days, Pakistan army killed Indian soldier after they violated ceasefire and fired indiscriminately on the Indian forward posts along the Line of Control (LOC) in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district on Wednesday.

For the second time in the last two days, Pakistan army killed Indian soldier after they violated ceasefire and fired indiscriminately on the Indian forward posts along the Line of Control (LOC) in the Krishna Ghati sector of  Poonch district on Wednesday.

He is the third soldier to have been killed in Pakistan firing on the LoC since Monday evening.

Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, defence spokesman at Jammu, said Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars from 4.45 pm in Krishna Ghati  sector along the Line of Control (LoC).

“Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively. However, in the exchange of fire, Naik Thorat Kiran Popatrao was grievously injured who later succumbed”, he said

Hailing from Village Fakirabad Wadi, Waijapur Tehsil, District Aurangabad, Maharashtra Naik  Thorat Kiran Popatrao, 31 is survived by his wife Aarti.

“Naik  Thorat Kiran Popatrao was a brave and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty”, said Lieutenant Colonel Anand.

On Monday evening Pakistan army resorted to indiscriminate firing on the Indian forward positions along the Line of Control (LoC) killing two Indian army soldiers in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district in Jammu division.

This is the third time in last seven days when army has suffered fatalities on the Line of Control. On April 3, a soldier was killed and four others including an officer were injured on the LoC in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district of Jammu division.

Official figures revealed that 633 ceasefire violations were recorded along the LoC and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir in first two months of 2018. Of these 432 incidents were reported from the Line of Control and 201 on the International Border. Ten security personnel and 12 civilians were killed in these violations.

Last year there were 860 ceasefire violations along the LoC and 111 incidents on the International Border. Twelve 12 civilians were killed and 59 others were injured in these incidents in 2017. Six Army personnel and four BSF men were also killed and 18 army soldiers and 22 BSF jawans were injured in these incidents.
