Troubles seem to be not ending for former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti as another party leader on Friday raised the banner of rebellion against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership over the dynastic politics.

Yasir Reshi, Member of Legislative Council, supported other PDP rebels and called for an alternative to the traditional two-family system, apparently hinting at Mufti and Abdullah families who control PDP and National Conference respectively.

“I am in complete conformity with the views expressed recently by my esteemed colleagues to find an alternative to the traditional two family system. The only way out is to give a chance to a new leadership. The state needs a respite from the tried, tested and failed two-family power sharing model," said Reshi.

Reshi, who lost the assembly elections to the National Conference stalwart and former Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone from Sonawari constituency, was made the Member of Upper House by the PDP in a bid to compensate him for the loss.

“Jammu and Kashmir is facing multiple challenges of governance, law and order and most importantly the challenges of social distress. Successive government have failed to face these challenges resulting in anarchical type of a situation”, he said.

Reshi also called for consensus among all political groups to carve out a leadership which can counter the challenges. “The need of the house is to rise to the occasion and collectively, cutting across party lines built a consensus on a leadership which has the capacity of countering these challenges," he said.

Reshi is the fifth lawmaker who has openly rebelled against Mehbooba Mufti. Former J&K Sports Minister and an influential Shia cleric Imran Reza Ansari, who represents Pattan constituency, his uncle Abid Hussain Ansari who represents Zadibal constituency, Mohommad Abbaas Wani, MLA of Gulmarg constituency, Javed Beag, who represents Baramulla consituency – have revolted against the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti.
