On request of the Jharkhand government, the Anand, Gujarat, headquartered National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) will manage the Jharkhand State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Ltd (JSCMPF). On Saturday, NDDB announced of signing MoU with Jharkhand government for managing the federation for five years.

As per the agreement, Jharkhand government has handed over the JSCMPF to NDDB for five years, in which the board will create a system and process of procuring milk, developing dairies for production and marketing milk in the state.

NDDB has earlier also managed state milk co-operative federations. "Before Jharkhand, NDDB had similarly managed federation in Rajasthan. Even today, we are operating in Assam," said an NDDB official.

NDDB will increase procurement and production of milk in Jharkhand in phases. "Within five years, we will help the federation in procurement, production and marketing of milk. After that, we will handover the federation back to the farmers of Jharkhand," said the official.

"Recognising the role of dairying in sustaining livelihoods of rural milk producers in Jharkhand, NDDB has agreed to work closely with the Government of Jharkhand," said MD of NDDB Dilip Rath.
