After Bhartiya Janata Party's (BJP) thundering victory in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, party chief Amit Shah on Tuesday said their next target is the Delhi Assembly.

The BJP chief made remarks while addressing over 1,200 party workers including new and outgoing councillors, at the Vijay Utsav organised the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Center in national capital.

"Our next target is 2020 Delhi Assembly elections. Winning MCD elections was not the aim, rather it was to lay the foundation for the Delhi Assembly polls," said Shah.

Stating that party workers had been waiting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Vijay Rath to stop in Delhi, Shah said, "Now that the rath has reached here, it will go even further."

Talking about corruption, the BJP chief urged new councillors to work for people and not for themselves. "Delhi's election is a referendum, as it has people from all regions across the country," he said.

Meanwhile, hitting out at the Arvind Kejriwal government, Shah also said that people in Delhi have rejected 'politics of excuses'.

"The AAP chief Kejriwal must meet our booth workers to know the reason behind our victory than blame their defeat on the EVMs," said Shah, as hundreds of party workers indulged in sloganeering among chants of Bharat Mata Ki Jai.
