Amarnath Yatra begins amid tight security from Jammu

The annual 46-day pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Baba Amarnathji started today from Jammu with first batch of yatris getting ready to proceed to forward base camps of Nunwan in Pahalgam and Baltal in Sonamarg.

The first batch of the yatris left Yatri Niwas, Canal Road, the base camp at Jammu today at 5am.

Roughly over 4,000 yatris have arrived from various parts of the country in Jammu for the yatra. The yatra from forward base camps will start on June 29. Security deployment and all other arrangements have been made at the base camp of Jammu as well as forward base camps in Srinagar for the pilgrims.

A convoy of police and para-military personnel joined batch of pilgrims. Security, para-military and police personnel have been deployed in adequate strength at the Jammu-Srinagar national highway for protection of the pilgrims. They will remain deployed at the highway till completion of the yatra.
