Refusing to give any credence to the exit poll predictions in regards to Jharkhand and in Jammu and Kashmir, Janata Dal (United) leader Ali Anwar on Sunday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not be able to form governments in any of the two states.
"This is just an exit poll; the exact poll is yet to come. I do not think whether it is in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi or Jharkhand the BJP would be able to form government," he said.
However, the JD-U leader acknowledged that the people were distraught about the local governments and there was no strong alliance within the opposition which he said could help the BJP.
Various exit polls have reportedly predicted clear majority for the BJP in Jharkhand Assembly elections, and a hung assembly in Jammu and Kashmir. According to all exit polls, the BJP appears all set to form next government in Jharkhand, ABP News-Nielsen says the BJP will get about 52 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is predicted to win 10 seats, Congress 7, and RJD and JDU 1 each. Today's Chanakya has predicted a landslide victory for the BJP in Jharkhand with the party projected to win 61 seats. It predicts a debacle for the Congress with the party projected to win just 4 seats. JMM is predicted to win 12 seats, while others winning 4. ITG-CICERO exit poll suggests the BJP will get 43 to 51 seats in Jharkhand, while the JMM with 14 to 18 seats will emerge the second-largest party. The Congress is predicted to win 7 to 11 seats while others are also predicted to win 7 to 11 seats.
In Jammu and Kashmir, C-Voter predicts no clear majority for any party with the PDP emerging as the single-largest party. It has predicted 32 to 38 seats for the PDP, 27 to 33 for the BJP, 8 to 14 for the National Conference and 4 to 10 for the Congress. The five-phase voting in the two states concluded on Saturday. While Jharkhand witnessed the highest ever poll percentage of over 66%, Jammu and Kashmir recorded a voter turnout of about 66%, the highest ever in 25 years.
