A day after the AIADMK mouthpiece hinted at an alliance with the BJP, the party leaders on Monday sought to clarify the matter saying that any decision on the poll alliance would be taken only during the elections.

With the Opposition, including the DMK, picking up the article to hit out at the AIADMK, party spokesperson Dr Vaigaichelvan said that the editor of the party organ "Namadhu Puratchi Thalaivi Amma" has sacked an assistant editor for publishing the article written by a freelancer that goes against the party's stand. "The party organ will also carry a rejoinder on Tuesday's edition," he told DNA.

With the anti-BJP wave prevailing in Tamil Nadu over the Cauvery issue, the article published in the AIADMK's organ hinting at an alliance with the BJP was picked up by opposition parties, particularly, DMK to criticise it.

AIADMK senior leader and Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha M Thambidurai said that his party has been working as an independent party on the floor of the Parliament and is not in alliance with BJP. The question of the alliance would be discussed during the polls and a decision would be taken then only, he added.

Thambidurai was reacting to the article, which claimed that the DMK-led opposition parties' protests were only aimed at spoiling the warmth it shared with the BJP. "The signs are (increasingly) becoming visible for the AIADMK and the BJP to work like a double-barrelled gun in Indian politics. The pathway is clear," the daily said, emphasising the need for the leadership of the two parties to chart out a roadmap.

Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar also echoed the views of Thambidurai. "The matter of alliance is decided by the party and not by the author of the article. The details of the alliance will be let known only when the right time comes," he told reporters. When asked whether his party would take on the BJP if it worked against the interests of Tamil Nadu, he affirmed that AIADMK would not hesitate to oppose any party that acted against the interests of the State, which of was paramount importance to the party. "Can we hug and give a kiss to someone who is acting against our State's interests?" he questioned.

The AIADMK organ's assertion came days after it asked the BJP-led Centre to change its mindset over Cauvery. On April 13, the party's mouthpiece had said: "Without waiting anymore, it will be good if the central government changed its mindset and avoided partiality." If this was not done, it would "lead to cracks in the unity and integration" of the nation, it had cautioned.

On AIADMK and BJP acting as a double-barrelled gun, DMK working president MK Stalin said that it is true and that the gun is hatching a conspiracy against TN. "Of course, they are acting as a double-barrelled gun, but it is in conspiring against interests of the State. They both acted together and brought in NEET, they both work together in denying the Cauvery Management Board," he told reporters in Pudukottai.

Wait For Right Time

TN Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar said, “The matter of alliance is decided by the party and not by the article’s author. The details of the alliance will be let known only when the right time comes.”
