Parents of the two rape victims of Panchmahals are demanding immediate justice for their victimised daughters. Of the two unfortunate rape victims, two-and-a-half-years-old victim, Jahnavi (name changed) from Panchmahals had died, while the 14-year-old victim from Kadana is still struggling for medical treatment from government hospitals.

Jahnavi’s mother had written a letter to the chief minister to fulfill her long list of demands including the one that the case should be tried in a fast-track court and the charge sheet should be submitted within 20 days. She also demanded that a woman special public prosecutor should be appointed immediately to ensure capital punishment is awarded to the accused.

The mother, who is mourning the death of her infant daughter, wants that there should be an in-camera trail so that the witnesses can talk freely in the court and a woman magistrate should hear the case. Jahnavi was killed after she was raped by one of her relatives. The accused was arrested by police and sent to judicial custody.

In the other case, a teenage girl was raped by her fiancé and she is undergoing treatment at the Godhra Community Health Centre. “Many X-rays of her leg has been taken and so far it doesn’t seem that her leg is fractured,” a relative of the girl told DNA. Kadana police have arrested one Javed Qureshi for raping the girl.

The girl was raped on December 27, while her medical tests were done on December 28 at the SSG Hospital, Vadodara. However, the SSG hospital later refused further medical treatment to the girl and she was sent back home. She was later re-admitted to Godhra CHC on Tuesday.
