Days before PM Modi leaves for the United States for a week-long visit, India's foreign minister S Jaishankar has said that there is political comfort between New Delhi and Washington and contentious issues such as trade will be resolved soon.

Responding to questions during his press conference on the 100 days of the Modi government, Jaishankar said, "India-US relations have come a long way. Look today at the quality of the relationship, the amount of trade, look at the political comfort, look at security cooperation, look at the movement of a people business, students, research"

He pointed out that India-US ties have been on an upward trajectory in the last 20 years under various administrations from Clinton to George Bush to Obama to Trump.

Reassuring that India-US ties are in "good health" he said, "I am very satisfied with how the relationship has gone in the last few years, I am very optimistic where it is going"

On the trade issues between India and US, the External Affairs minister said, "As the relationship grows, there will be issues, the only way you cannot have a trade problem is if you don't trade. Trade problem only happens with people you are closest too. Trade problems are normal, in fact, they are reflective of a very substantial relationship"

India has been engaging with the US on the issue with the minister saying, "There would be an effort to take it to a higher level and sit down and see where we can find common ground where there can be given and take and find ways it can work for both of us."

Adding, "My expectations are some of the sharper edges will be addressed in a not too distant future. I will point to a glass that is 90% full, then a glass that is 10% empty"

PM Modi during his America visit will meet US President in New York and also address a major diaspora event in Houston that is expected to see the participation of 50,000 people according to the organisers.
