Former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has offered a training stint to Kashmiri youngster Majid Khan, a budding footballer who had joined terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), but later returned home after a video of her mother appealing him to come back went viral.

Announcing the decision to take the 22-year-old under his wings on Saturday, Bhutia said, "I was very sad to read reports of Majid joining a terrorist organisation. Football has provided solace to many people over the years, and I felt he requires a platform to play the beautiful game again."

The 40-year-old Arjuna award winner added that he has already written to the Jammu & Kashmir Football Association, offering to train Majid at the Bhaichung Bhutia Football School in New Delhi.

"I want him to train under my coaches and then we can decide where he stands as a player. I believe he deserves an opportunity and I hence, felt best to open the doors for him," Bhutia said in a statement provided by the All India Football Federation.

Bhutia then tweeted saying that he hoped Majid would accept his offer.

Army officials in Jammu and Kashmir had launched an operation to bring the promising footballer back to his home safely after getting information from his family that he was trying to renounce terrorism and return to the mainstream.

"I also read that he has been a promising footballer since his childhood and has even won quite many trophies. Once you start kicking the ball again, you never know, your lives may just kick-off again. We want Majid to come back to normal life at the earliest," Bhutia said.

Cited Majid's return as an example, Army officials appealed the youth who have joined terror outfits to return back home.
