The Modi wave is far from dying out any time soon. After a gap of 18 years, Akhil Bharti Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the youth wing of the RSS won all four seats in the Delhi University students' union elections. All seats were won by a margin of over 18,000 votes. The Congress leadership in Delhi, hoping to gather support for the assembly election, had been campaigning for its student union body NSUI. Its efforts bore no results.

Unlike the Congress, the BJP had earlier disassociate from its youth wing. on Sunday the party congratulated ABVP for its historic victory. BJP president Amit Shah tweeted, "I congratulate ABVP for winning all 4 panels in DUSU elections. The students and karyakartas of DU deserve credit." BJP national secretary Srikanth Sharma also congratulated ABVP.

Mohit Nagar has been elected president of DUSU while Pravesh Malik has won the elections for vice president's post. Kanika Shekhawat and Ashutosh Mathur have been elected as secretary and joint secretary respectively. In the 2013 elections, the ABVP had managed to win three out of four seats in the student union polls.

The ABVP national secretary also gave credit to the prime minister for its victory. "People's expectations have gone up after the Modi government came to power. The ABVP fulfilled its promises by scrapping the four-year undergraduate p(FYUP)," said Rohit Chahal.

From the Congress party's perspective, the results of the student union elections is yet again an indication that the assembly polls in Delhi are not going to be a cakewalk. Besides AICC general secretaries Mukul Wasnik and Oscar Fernanades, the team at Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee remained at the helm of affairs during the university polls. The state unit remained involved in framing the election manifesto and its senior leaders went from college to college seeking votes. The party workers in Delhi had been told that it was essential to target college students who comprise a major chunk of the youth vote in Delhi. "The exercise was carried out by the Delhi Congress to build up its vote bank for the assembly elections that are due," said a senior Congress leader.
