The Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday hailed newly-elected Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath?s decision to ban 'pan masala' in the government premises in the state.

?We welcome this decision. I would also like to appeal to him to take a step to ban liquor,? JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan told ANI.

Echoing similar views, another JD(U) leader K.C. Tyagi said the decision taken by the Chief Minister was not objectionable.

Adityanath, a day before, banned the use of pan masala and tobacco in the government premises in the state.

This was confirmed by Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who said that the Chief Minister had inspected the annexe and directed the officials to maintain cleanliness so that the change was visible in the state.

"He has advised against the use of pan masala, plastic and tobacco in the government buildings and offices," Maurya told ANI.

He added that wherever there was a cleanliness issue, it had to be taken under control as soon as possible.
