Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Maharashtra state convener Anjali Damani and secretary Preeti Sharma on Tuesday evening resigned from their posts, citing personal and family responsibilities.

Speaking to dna, Anjali Damania said, "Me and Preeti Sharma, have resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party. However, we will continue to support the party, whenever they need us."

When asked if there were any party issues behind the resignation since the Maharashtra assembly polls are a few weeks away, Damani said, "There are no issues with AAP. Both Preeti and I were unable to cope up with the multi-tasking, and it was becoming difficult for us to manage things between family life, career and party responsibilities."

"In the last three years that we have spent with AAP, we have had a wonderful journey and have discovered the country as well as our own selves through the India Against Corruption movement and then through AAP. However, every adventure ends and ours ends here," said Preeti Sharma in a joint statement to the media.

Earlier, in June 2014, Damania had announced her resignation from AAP, however, she withdrew her resignation on the same day.

Damani had come into the limelight for accusing Union Minister Nitin Gadkari of misusing his political contacts to usurp agricultural land in Khursapur for his firm Purti Power and Sugar Ltd (PPSL). She contested in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, but lost BJP's Nitin Gadkari.
