Having turned the politics of Delhi on its head with its aggressive stand on local issues like inflated electricity bills, incidents of rape in the Capital and inadequate drinking water supply, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched its campaign for the general elections in Rajasthan bringing the same issues to state.

The party has launched a state-wide drive to draw members from the locals who would further its agenda in the polls next year. In return, it is promising safety of women, an investigation into the billing process adopted by Discoms (power distribution companies).

It has already announced camps for self-defence in Jaipur for women who enroll with the party.

“Incidents like December 16 rape in Delhi are reminders of how women are unsafe in cities.

Jaipur is no different. We are organising five-day camps for women free of cost,” an official of AAP said.

The camps being organised in Malviya Nagar, Shyam Nagar, Vaishali Nagar, Jhotwara and Jawahar Nagar would attract a lot of women members for the party and is stunt by AAP to connect with prospective voters.

Ashok Jain, state convenor of AAP, said, “AAP will contest Lok Sabha polls in Rajasthan. We are organising a state conference in Jaipur to decide on the issues. Our IT cell is working on several issues like inflated electricity bills, which we would make our poll agenda.”

The party has called a meeting of its state unit on Sunday following which the issues would be shortlisted and sent to the national core committee for approval. By the first week of Jnuary, the party is hopeful of taking the agenda to the people of Rajasthan.  After the meeting, the party would take out a rally till the Statue Circle.
