There has been a lot of social media traction regarding the #MeToo campaign that took the internet by storm after Hollywood actress Alyssa Milano asked people to share their stories of how they battled sexual harassment.

A number of men stepped up, realising how they had played a role in making things worse for the women, and some even asked how they could become better people.

Nicole Stamp, a Canadian television host, actress and filmmaker, shared a list of 14 things people can keep in mind to make victims of abuse feel safer. The post has been shared nearly 39K times and the comment section is filled with gratitude from men and a unanimous agreement from women.

Meanwhile, back home ad copywriter Gautam Mahajan, who is based out of Mumbai, shared a post on how he, inspired by his bro culture, played a role in ensuring women did not feel safe at the workplace. "Me too - I laughed and participated in sexist jokes and misogynistic humour, thinking it was just what 'men' do. Me too - I was part of a toxic culture where a woman was considered a conquest, an object created for physical gratification. Me too - I threw the word 'rape' around casually, without understanding the gravity of what it meant, of what it represented. Me too - I thought that men were in some way superior to women. Me too - I represented everything I despise about masculinity today."

While speaking to DNA, Mahajan said, "I just saw so many women talk about being molested and it made me realise why this happens. It's a toxic environment that we live in. And it's so it's so casual and normal that most people don't realise it. I remembered myself as a teenager and how the 'bro culture' trained us to think like this. And then, the words came out," he said.
