88% voter turnout recorded during repolling in West Bengal

Around 88% voter turnout was recorded at a polling booth in Bishnupur Lok Sabha seat in Bankura district where repolling was held on Sunday.

Till 6 pm around 88% voter turnout was recorded at the repolling which was peaceful, District Magistrate and Returning Officer Bijaya Bharati said.

The repoll was ordered after the presiding officer of the polling booth complained to the district magistrate and returning officer that the local Trinamool Congress MLA Dipali Saha had forcefully cast 100 votes in booth number 27 at Sahapur.

District magistrate later discussed the matter with state chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta and repoll was ordered.

An FIR was also lodged against Dipali Saha who is absconding, the police said.
