8.5 kg gold seized by DRI officials in Tamil Nadu

Two persons were today arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle gold with gold biscuits weighing 8.5-kg being seized from them by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials near Sirkazhi here.

The gold was found hidden inside the bonnet of the car in which the duo was travelling after DRI officials intercepted it at Melachalai this evening following a tip-off, police said.

Mohd Fazil of Chennai and Yazar Arafat of Paramakudi were arrested in the matter.

This is the second major haul of unaccounted gold in the district since last month after DRI officials seized 14-kg of gold during a vehicle check on August 22 near Karaikal.
