Eighty Indian ex-servicemen working in Bahrain will be honoured at a ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's return to India from South Africa, an organiser said on Thursday.

The chief guest at the event will be Bahrain's Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan. Keynote speakers at Thursday's event will include present and former officials from the Kerala government.

The event 'Gandhi Darshan Pravasi Sangamam' has been organised by the Mahatma Gandhi Cultural Forum with the Labour Ministry and Indian Embassy in the Indian School in Isa Town.

"Eighty Indian ex-servicemen will be honoured at the event tomorrow. They have been working in several security agencies of Bahrain," said Paul Sebastian, vice-president of Mahatma Gandhi Cultural Forum.

"The Indian government has celebrated this event for the past 10 years," said organiser Latheesh Bharathan. "But it is being organised for the first time in Bahrain. The aim is to propagate the ideals and principles of Mahatma Gandhi," Bharathan was quoted as saying by Gulf Daily News.

"It also provides a platform for the overseas Indian community to share their experiences with fellow nationals," he said.
