A 73-year-old man, former peon at Ministry of External Affairs, has been arrested along with his wife in connection with a cheating case of Rs 30 lakh taken on the pretext of providing government jobs, police said today.

Moinuddin Chaudhary, a proclaimed offender, was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his arrest, said Ajit Kumar Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast).

Chaudhary was caught outside a school in GTB Enclave area where he had gone to pick up his five children yesterday, he said, adding that his wife Deboshree Chakravoarty was arrested on January 13.

A case of cheating was registered at Seemapuri police station on a complaint of Prakash Chand Sharma in 2015.

Sharma alleged that three persons -- Shashank Bhandra, Chakravoarty and Choudhary -- cheated Rs 30.20 lakh from him on the pretext of providing a government job to his son Ashutosh and other relatives.

Moinuddin belonged to Assam and shifted to Delhi around 40 years back. He has studied up to eighth standard and worked with Ministry of External Affairs as peon for about six years in early 1980s, police said.
