The BJP-Shiv Sena combine has won incredibly in the western state of Maharashtra. The 'Mahayuti' alliance which consisted of 4 state parties has snapped up 41 of the state's 49 seats. This in a state that has historically been a strong bastion of the Congress.

Even in Mumbai, which has almost always voted towards the Congress, this year, voted for the BJP across all seven seats. So what will Maharashtra’s MP’s contribute towards Narendra Modi’s new cabinet? We take a look at the MP’s who are most probably candidates of Modi’s new cabinet.

Piyush Goyal

A chartered accountant by profession, the suave politician is a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and the party’s national treasurer. Often seen on television news debates, Goyal is one of the party’s sharpest financial minds, who can spot a financial discrepancy with just a glance. While some in the party believe he is slated to be the Minister of State for Finance, an old aide of his hinted at him being the next Minister of Commerce. But with a financial mind like Goya's the party could hardly go wrong in correcting the national economy.

Poonam Mahajan

The daughter of slain senior BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, Poonam Mahajan has been an active member of the BJP for nearly a decade now and is known to be keenly involved in the youth wing of the party and rather extremely media savvy. Modi may find her very useful as a minister for youth affairs and sports or Minister for women and child welfare.

Gopinath Munde

The BJP’s most senior leader in Maharashtra, Gopinath Munde has served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He served as the deputy leader of the BJP in the Lok Sabha. For getting the BJP to win so handsomely in Maharashtra, a state strongly considered to be a bastion of the Congress, Narendra Modi will surely have to reward the BJP’s local chieftain. Whether Munde will get a senior ministry or just be made an MoS in his cabinet is anyone’s guess though.

Kirit Somaiya

A Gujarati, Somaiya may stand a good chance to joining Modi’s cabinet either as MoS for commerce or heavy industries. Kirit Somaiya is one of the BJP's strongest Gujarati faces from the city and in a view to pacify the Gujarati voters in the city before the Assembly polls, Modi may give him a senior position.

Suresh Prabhu

Not yet an MP, but a key member of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet, he served as Industry Minister, Government of India in his first term. He also served as Minister of Environment and Forests, Government of India and formerly, Minister of Fertilizers & Chemicals. He was also Union Minister of Power, Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises at various times.Narendra Modi may find Prabhu to be a strong addition to his cabinet. It wouldn’t be surprising if Modi uses the backdoor route to get Prabhu back in.

The other names doing the rounds

Anant Gite from Raigad, who was union power minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's cabinet, Anandrao Adsul from  Amravati constituency was a MoS Finance, Chandrakant Khaire of Aurangabad, Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil from Shirur, Bhawana Gawli Surve from Yavatmal- Washim and Rajya Sabha MP and industrialist Rajkumar Dhoot are other Shiv Sena leaders who are also vying for a role in the to be formed Central Government
