The BJP has identified 120 cities across the country where the MODI (Making of Developed India) Festival will be held from May 26 to June 15, to mark the third anniversary of Narendra Modi government.
With the Modi regime having completed more than half its tenure, the achievements of the government during the past three years will be highlighted during the festival, according to BJP sources. The fest will be aimed at connecting with the people on major steps like demonetization, surgical strikes in PoK and welfare schemes, particularly those that benefit the poor, farmers and women.
Besides the Modi fest, the celebrations would include around half-a-dozen other programmes. The government is working in close coordination with the BJP office in the Capital to finalise the plans. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself will be in Assam on May 26, BJP chief Amit Shah is expected to address a news conference here on the day.
The party, which has capitalised on Modi's image in electoral battles in states, has already started preparations for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Shah has undertaken a 95-day journey across the country and the party is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that it reaches out in every corner, particularly where the BJP has so far failed to make inroads. On Tuesday, Shah is setting out for Lakshadweep, which has just 50,000 voters, the smallest electorate in a Lok Sabha constituency.
Meanwhile, Union ministers and party MPs will be fanning out around 300 districts to interact with the people, as part of the third anniversary celebrations. Their programmes include meetings with intellectuals and other segments of society.
Modi is likely to address a rally in the Northeast on May 26 and launch projects there. The BJP, which had won Assam for the first time a year ago, has set its eyes on other northeastern states. Shah had recently made a trip to Tripura. He is hoping to capitalise on the anti-incumbency factor against CPM's Manik Sarkar, who has been the Chief Minister since March 1998.
Modi will also be opening India's longest bridge on a river—the 9.5-km Sadiya-Dhola link over Lohit, which is the main stream of the Brahmaputra—connecting Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
