His wife Zabin, 28, daughters Mubtashir, 6, and 3-month-old Umera were upstairs and where the first to be butchered, before he started slitting throats of his sisters Shabina Khan, 35, Batul, 30 and Mariyam Fakhi, 28. Subiya Bharmar, 22, the youngest sister, who was also attacked, however, managed to survive as she feigned to be dead.

It was the turn of his niece and nephew, both minors, next, while the parents were killed in the end. A total of 14 persons were killed and one left severely injured, by the time he took his own life.

Hasnain had invited his sisters, living in Koparkhairne and Mahapoli, for the feast and while Subiya, the lone survivor, did not wanted to come, he convinced her husband Jozaf and brought her, promising to drop her back in the morning. She is now out of danger and is recovering at Titan hospital in Thane.

Gulzar Chacha, the eldest member of the family, told dna, "We are shattered... there's not a single corner in the house where blood was not splashed. Bodies were lying on the first-floor bedroom and the hall."

Kempi Patil, a surgeon at the Thane's civil hospital, said, "We have found defense wounds on the victims, which means they did try to save themselves and were conscious when they were assaulted. We have completed the post-mortem. Everyone has cut wounds on the neck, as throats have been slit with a very sharp weapon".

"We have collected the viscera and blood samples and have sent them for chemical analysis to check if they contain sedatives," said Patil.

A senior police officer from Kasarvadavali station said, "We have spoken to some of the family members. They aver that Hasnain never used to raise his voice in front of his elders, forget about killing them. But the crime scene clearly indicates the way 14 people were killed. Also, the statement of the injured victim has been taken. She is out of danger, but has a deep cut on the throat," he said.

A case under section 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered against the deceased accused, he added.
