A fresh wave of violence hit Kashmir as three people, including a former Special Police Officer (SPO), were killed or died of injuries inflicted by terrorists, in a span of 12 hours.

Police said three young men -- Reyaz Ahmad, Zahid Ahmad and Basharat Ahmad-- were kidnapped by terrorists from their homes in Reban area of Shopian district of South Kashmir on Friday night. They were taken to Nikloora village where Basharat, a former SPO, was shot dead and the two others were set free.

"Police retrieved the body of Basharat Ahmad from Nikloora village in Pulwama. His body was handed over to his family after completion of medico-legal formalities. Two others were set free," said a police spokesman.
Police said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered. A manhunt has been launched to nab the militants.

In another incident, a 14-year-girl, who was injured when terrorists attacked Kaimuh Army Camp in Kulgam district on November 22, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital on Saturday.

Terrorists had fired on Kaimuh Army Camp on November 22, grievously injuring a girl who was in the adjoining area. Alert soldiers retaliated immediately and a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) was pressed into action in the direction from which the firing had come. The terrorists had, however, managed to escape by taking advantage of the terrain and weather conditions.

While in the case of the third death, mystery shrouds the killing of Ishfaq Ahmad Ganie, who received grievous wounds in a firing at Chatergam in Central Kashmir's district of Budgam on Friday night.

"Ishfaq Ahmad Ganie of Magraypora was shot at by terrorists, 500-600 metres away from Army Camp, at Chhatargam. When the Army troops heard the sound of firing, the QRT immediately rushed towards the direction of fire. When the party reached the spot, they saw Ishfaq in a pool of blood," said colonel Rajesh Kalia, defence spokesman at Srinagar

Colonel Kalia said he had suffered bullet injuries -- one in his head and the other in his leg, and was immediately taken to Chhatargam hospital from where he was shifted to SMHS.

Main opposition National Conference strongly condemned the killing of the two civilians and former SPO in different incidents across the valley.

National Conference Central Zone President Ali Mohammad Dar expressed shock and anguish over the killing of Ganie of Mogreypora Chadoora on Friday evening.

"Ganie was allegedly shot dead near an army camp in Chattergam, when he was travelling home on a motorbike. Stern action should be taken against the culprits involved in this gruesome act," Dar said. He urged authorities to lodge an FIR against the culprits involved in the incident without any delay.
