2G spectrum scam: Tenure of IPS officer probing case extended

The deputation of IPS officer Santosh Rastogi, who has been in the probe team of the 2G spectrum case, was today extended by a year.

CBI had sent a request for extending the tenure of Rastogi, an IPS officer of 1998 batch of Maharashtra cadre, as he was probing the 2G case, which was cleared by the competent authority.

According to the order, Rastogi, who is at present posted as Deputy Inspector General with CBI and whose tenure was to end this Sunday, has been extended till May 2, 2016. Rastogi's name came in public domain after noted lawyer Prashant Bhushan had petitioned in the Supreme Court against his transfer to Intelligence Bureau last year.

CBI had informed the apex court that Rastogi, who had sought to recuse himself from probing the Tata-Unitech deal case, had made a voluntary representation for transfer to the Intelligence Bureau.

However, following directions from the Supreme Court, the transfer of the IPS officer had to be cancelled.

However, CBI has not moved any request for the extension of Ashok Tewari, an IPS officer of 1993 batch from Himachal Pradesh cadre. He was Joint Director looking after the probe into the 2G scam.
