22-year-old marries and rapes minor, arrested

The family of a 15-year-old girl alleged that 22-year-old Sunil Parathe kidnapped and raped their daughter after forcibly married her. The accused, who is a Govandi resident was arrested and was produced in court.

On March 4, Parathe went to Mumbra to his relative's place where the victim also stays. In the evening when the victim went out along with her friends, Pathare started stalking her and forcibly took her along saying he will marry her. 

He took the victim to a Vashi temple where he married her. After spending one whole day with the girl, the police got a tip-off and they rushed to the spot to rescue the girl. Though the girl was scared to say anything to the, she narrated the ordeal after being assured of safety. The accused has been caught and is behind the bars.

Investigation officer from Mumbra police station P Chavan said, "We have caught the accused from Vashi. He was on the run with the victim. The accused used to often go to Mumbra to his relative's place to meet the girl. He then made a plan and fled away with the girl. We have produced the accused in court. The parents have also informed about the rape so, we have sent the accused for medical tests."

The accused is booked under sections 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her into marriage), 363(punishment for kidnapping), 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
