14-year-old arrested for making video of girl in bath

The Vakola police have arrested a 14-year-old boy for allegedly taking an obscene video of his 13-year-old neighbour when she was taking a bath in her residence at a chawl in Santa Cruz. The accused has been arrested and booked under the stringent Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso).

The Vakola police have arrested a 14-year-old boy for allegedly taking an obscene video of his 13-year-old neighbour when she was taking a bath in her residence at a chawl in Santa Cruz. The accused has been arrested and booked under the stringent Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso).

When did the incident happen?
According to the police, around a month back, the accused had put his mobile phone in the video mode and kept it near the exhaust fan window of the victim's bathroom wall. "The accused recorded a minute-long video of the girl in her bath and later circulated it among his friends," said a police officer. "One of the friends of the accused identified the victim in the video and alerted her parents," he added.

How was it revealed?
The matter came to light when the shocked father of the victim approached the police on January 23 and registered an FIR. The police, as part of their evidence, recorded statements of two friends of the accused who had received the video clip and seized their mobile phones.

Are the accused and victim friends?
According to the police, the accused is an immediate neighbour of the victim. On earlier occasions too, he had stalked the victim and tried peeping into her bathroom.
According to the police, the 14-year-old lives with his parents and a sister. "During investigations, we have ascertained that the boy is behind the recording of the video and circulating it. We have arrested him from his residence," said an officer from Vakola police station. He added: "When the accused was arrested, he had deleted the clip from his mobile. We have sent the phone to the forensic laboratory to retrieve the video."

Has the accused been booked?
The accused has been booked under Section 354 of the IPC, 67 A (publishing of information which is obscene in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act read with Section 11 (sexual harassment on a child with sexual intent) and 12 (punishment for sexual harassment) of Pocso.
