14 followers of 'godman' Rampal sent to police remand

A local court has remanded 14 disciples of self-styled godman Rampal of Satlok Ashram Barwala to two days' police remand in connection with a case registered on November 18, police said today.

The accused were in the judicial custody and were produced in the court after obtaining production warrant.

After police inquiry it was revealed that they allegedly had criminal background, police said.

They have been booked under sections 121 (waging war against state), 342 (wrongful confinement), 353 (assault), 147 and 148 (rioting) of the IPC and the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, said police.
63-year-old Rampal was arrested on November 19 after a two-week tense stand-off between his supporters and the police after close to 15,000 of his followers were evacuated from the sprawling premises.
