13-year-old boy burnt alive at neighbour's house in Bengal's West Midnapore

A 13-year-old boy was killed after he was set on fire at his neighbour's house in West Midnapore district, police said on Sunday.

The incident happened at Mirzapur village under the jurisdiction of Kharagpur Local police station on Saturday, the police said.

The boy had gone to a nearby shop to buy some items.

His family started looking for him since he did not return home for a long time, a police officer said.

They found him on the verandah of their neighbour's house, the officer said.

The boy was taken to a hospital with serious burn injuries where he died, he said.

The boy's neighbour, a woman, has been arrested since the boy was found at her house, the officer said.

"We have started an investigation to know the reason behind the killing," the Additional Superintendent of Kharagpur, Y Raghuvamshi, said.
