11 things you need to know about the Odd-Even scheme that starts this New Year

-With the new Odd-Even formula starting this new year, here are key things you need to know

-As per the new rule, for 15 days, odd numbered cars will be allowed on odd dates and even numbered cars on even from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. On Sunday, there will be an exception and all cars will allowed to ply on the streets.

-A fine of Rs 2,000 will be levied on those breaking the rule

-A website has been launched by private citizens that helps people to connect with others to carpool once the new rule implemented

-Here are the Delhi govt helplines for Odd-Even trial: 011-42400400 and 011- 41400400, commuters can also tweet to @transportdelhi if they face problems.

-Women, VIPs, CNG cars and two-wheelers and vehicles used for medical emergencies are among the 25 categories which have been exempted from the rule among.  Delhi High Court has asked why women and two wheelers have were exempted. Doctors and lawyers have not been exempted from the rule.

-Chief Justice of India TS Thakur, though exempted from the rule, said that he would follow the rule. The US embassy too has agreed to follow the rule despite the rule not applicable to them. 

-The Delhi government has hired 3,000 private buses to manage the extra pressure on public transport.

-Schools have been ordered to remain closed till January 15 so their buses will be used in the public transport service. 

-At least 200 points across the city are part of the exercise to test the co-ordination between various agencies. 

-The new rule was announced after a court ordered authorities asked the government to take measures to drastically reduce air pollution which was found out to be over 10 times the WHO safe limits.
