10 candidates to look out for in the last phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2014

The much awaited last phase of the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections is finally here. With only 3 states going to polls, this phase will see some of the biggest names in the country contesting the elections. West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are going to polls with a total of 606 candidates contesting for 41 seats.

Mulayam Singh Yadav – Samajwadi Party supremo is contesting this election from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. Having changed his constituency from Mainpuri to Azamgarh, he is pitted against sitting BJP MP Ramakant Yadav, AAP’s Rajesh Yadav and BSP’s Shah Alam.

Narendra Modi- The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate is contesting this election from two constituencies. One being Vadodara, Gujarat and the other being the holy city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Even though he was denied permission to campaign from Varanasi, Narendra Modi had a very successful campaign nationally and is contesting against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and sitting Congress MP Ajay Rai.

Dinesh Trivedi – Former Minister of Railways and sitting Trinamool Congress MP from Barrackpore, West Bengal Dinesh Trivedi is seeking re-election from this seat. He is pitted against CPM’s Subhashini Ali, Congress’ Samrat Topadar and AAP’s Mihir Biswas.

Arvind Kejriwal – The AAP chief is contesting his maiden electoral contest from Varanasi. He is pitted against three strong contenders- Congress’ Ajay Rai & BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi.

Saugata Roy – Former Union Minister of state for Urban Development and sitting Trinamool Congress MP from Dum Dum, Saugata Roy is seeking re-election from this constituency. He is contesting against BJP’s Tapan Sikdar and Congress’ Dhananjay Moitra.

Ajay Rai – After leaving the BJP and the Samajwadi Party in 2009, Ajay Rai is contesting on a Congress ticket from Varanasi. Also, in the fray are AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. The Varanasi fight will be a close one as all three candidates are strong contenders. 

Abhishek Banerjee – President of the All India Trinamool Yuva and considered as Mamata Banerjee’s heir, Abhishek Banerjee is contesting his maiden electoral battle from Diamond Harbour, West Bengal. He is pitted against BJP’s Abhijit Das, Congress’ Qamruzzaman Qamar and CPM’s Abul Hasnat.

Ramakant Yadav – He has won the Azamgarh seat 4 times. BJP’s candidate from this constituency, he is pitted against Samajwadi party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Congress’ Arvind, AAP’s Rajesh Yadav and BSP’s Shah Alam.

Somendranath Mitra – He joined the Congress in January 2014, he is contesting this election from Kolkata(north) and is pitted against BJP’s Rahul Sinha, Trinamool Congress’ Sudip Bandyopadhyay & AAP’s Alok Chaturvedi.

Subhashini Ali – President of the All India Democratic Women’s Alliance, Subhashini Ali is the CPM candidate from Barrackpore, West Bengal. She is contesting against sitting Trinamool Congress MP Dinesh Trivedi, Congress’ Samrat Topadar and AAP’s Mihir Biswas.
