PM Narendra Modi Thursday afternoon arrived in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to attend the 2-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. As part of his visit, PM Modi held bilateral meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and China's Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan also arrived in Bishkek. However, no bilateral meet between PM Modi and Imran Khan has been scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the SCO summit.
"We attach special importance to SCO in promoting multilateral, political, security, economic and people-to-people interaction in the region. India has actively participated in various SCO dialogue mechanisms since its full membership of SCO two years ago," Modi had said on Wednesday.
India has extended full cooperation to the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic over the past year, Modi said.
"The summit is expected to discuss the global security situation, multilateral economic cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and topical issues of international and regional importance. On the sidelines of the summit, I also plan to meet several leaders bilaterally," PM said.
"The meeting with President Putin was excellent. We had wide-ranging discussions on ways to further boost the India-Russia strategic relationship. We look forward to increased trade and people-to-people linkages with Russia," tweets PM Modi.
